The flights and image-capturing are complete but I'm still working on quality control and photo uploading. Actually, I plan to share my method of quality control here so check back soon. What are you doing?
Mapping the whole town 🤩
What do you mean by the whole town?
Mapping the developed road system part of town; specifically, for water and sewer utility infrastructure.
Is this for work or a personal project?
I'm a CBS employee and also a drone operator for a small business. I was contracted by CBS for this project.

Who said you could do this?
Please don't talk to me while I'm flying a drone 😇
Are you flying an automated path?
No. I'm flying the drone manually so that I can account for things such as drastic elevation change in the ground beneath the drone.
How high are you flying?
On average, I'm flying around 280 to 320 ft.
Where did you start?
In 2024, I started at the end of HPR, Starrigavan Bay, and made my way towards town. However, the images were taken at a higher altitude and the resulting product was lower fidelity. I think I can do better and instead of redoing that portion I continued where I left off (Cascade Creek). If sunny weather and time permit, I will redo it.
My motto is: get better as I go!
Where can I see the final product?
The goal is to have it hosted on the City's page at www.cityofsitka.com, but for now I setup this webpage to share the ongoing project.
Can I use this imagery?
When the project is complete!
